Umbriel

The built-in Umbriel template generates colors for regular and scratchpad borders, title bars, tab bars, the insertion hint, fullscreen backdrop, and overview tint.

Title bars use surface_container for the focused background and surface for the unfocused background. Title text uses on_surface and on_surface_variant, respectively. The close button uses error, and maximize uses primary. These colors follow theme changes automatically.

Enable Umbriel under Settings → Templates → Compositors.

Noctalia writes the rendered template to ~/.config/umbriel/noctalia.toml and, when ~/.config/umbriel/config.toml already exists and is writable, adds it to the files array in the [include.optional] section. Existing include entries are preserved. Both paths honor $XDG_CONFIG_HOME. Umbriel reloads both files automatically when they change.

If the primary user config is absent, Noctalia leaves it absent and warns that manual setup is required. Add the generated file to the config Umbriel actually loads, for example:

[include.optional]
files = ["/home/you/.config/umbriel/noctalia.toml"]

Replace /home/you/.config with your resolved config directory and preserve any existing files entries. Use an absolute path when including the theme from a system or custom config. For declarative configs, add the include in the source that manages them. See Compositor Configuration for setup and recovery instructions.
